WANGANUI HARBOUR IMPROVEMENT.

£150,000 LOAN CARRIED

BY OVER FIFTEEN HUNDRED

VOTES

Wanganui, April 29. A poll was taken to-day on the proposal by the Harbour Board to raise a loan of £150,000 to complete the harbour scheme. The proposal was carried by an overwhelming majority, 1563 votes being for, and 61 against. The Board will immediately cable to England for an up-to-date dredge, which has been selected already, and proceed with the construction of wharfage accommodation and & floating basin. Jt is expected that ocean liners will berth at the._wharf next season to take away frozen meat. As -soon as the dredge arrives it will cut a seventeen feet channel up to the Wanganui town wharf. This depth, according to the engineers will be easily sustained by the river scour, and by carrying the training moles further out to sea, a depth of 32 feet is assured. Mr. N. G. Armstrong was elected a member of the Borough Council.
