Tho Schools Defence League has appointed tho Rev. F. A. Williams a Baptist minister of Sydenham Christchurch, organiser for the league, states .a Press Association telegram. He ha« -been-many years a strong-upholder of the present education system, and has written many pamphlet's on varioiiH aspects of the Bible in schools question.

At yesterday's sitting of the Nelson Education Board, the chairman (Mv .Lock) referred sympathetically to the <™ath J°f Mr L. D. Easton, and moved tho following resolution:—"That the Nelson Education Board deplores the removal of Mr L. D. Easton by death, and wishes to place on record the valuable services rendered by him to the cause of education whilst a member ot" the board, and desires to express to his widow and family deep sympathy in their bereavement." The motion wag seconded by Mr Beuke, and carried, the members standing.
