OIL WELLS ACTIVE.

sUnited Pbess Association.]

New Plymouth, April 27. The rotary bore of the Taranalsi (New Zealand). Oil Wells Co., Ltd., became violently active to-day at 4 p.m. when a blow out occurred of a violence never before equalled. The pressure of the gas was tremendous, water, mud and oil being forced upwards, and surrounded the derrick. The noise was deafening and the gas fumes made breathing in the derrick difficult. About 40 barrels of oil were recovered. Two hours later the ebullition of gas still continued, and it is expected when this subsides oil will be reached.
