OHITTENDEN
A meeting was held in the Dresden Chambers, Hardy street, on Wednesday evening to consider ways and means of providing funds for Mr Geo. Chittendon who by the result of an accident has beon deprived of his eyesight, and is totally blind. Mr W. McConchie was voted to the chair. A letter read from Mr F. St. John, kindly offering the use of the commercial room, Dresden Chambers; also a contribution to the fund for Mr Chittenden. , Mr Downs submitted an apology from Mr Barrakett for not being able to attend the meeting. Ho had been the employer at the time of the accident, and promised to do all in his power to help in the matter. The chairman, who had inter vie wed Mr Chittenden, gave an outline of the case, and invited discussion ns to the means of raising funds. Tt was resolved to divide the city into districts, and committee* were formed to canvass each district. Mr W McOonchio was elected chairman of the whole committee. An executive committee was also formed, consisting of the following: Messrs McOonchie, Jack, L. Roberteon, Nant, Worley, M<- ffatt, F. St. John, and A. C. Fawcett and A. Cross (joint sees.). . A meeting of the whole committee is called for Friday evening at 7.30. . The following motion was carried unanimously: "That this meeting of citizens and workers desires to express our deepest sympathy with Mr and Mrs Chittendon in their trouble, caused by the recent accident, arid assures them that the committee set up will do all m their power to assist them in their trouble."
