MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.
A meeting of the executive of the Nelson Association was Jield at the Commercial Hotel on Saturday evening, Mr J. H. Finney, a vice-president, occupied the chair, and there were present Messrs Broad, Treweek, Bensemann, Vercoe, Mead, Richmond, and the secretary (Mr E. R. Neale). The question of the entertainment of the visitors was discussed, and the arrangements set out above were decided' upon. It was resolved to ask Mr T. A. H. Field, a vice-president, to preside at the dinner in the- absence of Mr F. H. Richmond, the president; who has left for England.
It was reported that the railway manager (Mr T. Edwards) had made arrangements which would enable country people to come to town on both days. In view of the interest taken in (••ticket in the country districts, great satisfaction was expressed at the action of the railway manager, and he was accorded a hearty vote- of thanks for acceding to the Association's request. A letter was received from Mrs Sadlier inviting the visitors to afternoon, tea at Bishopdale if it could be arranged. As it was impossible to accept tho invitatkm, it was left to the secretary to inquire if it would be convenient for the team to call at Bishopdale for a few minutes on Thursday morning, when returning- from the drive.
A number of details in connection with the match 'were completed.
Ne.vth and H. Knapp, of Brightwater, have dropped out of the team to. meet the Australians, and th<> vacancies have-been filled by Vercoe (Old Boys) and T. Knapp (Brightwater). . It h to he hopod that the public will generously support the local association by attending in force at the Park on the days of the match. Few, out side teams come to Nelson, and it i» well over thirty years since the visit.of the only Australian team which has ever conic here. In order to bring the present team to this city the. Nelson Cricket Association has had to incur very heavy expense. First of. aU, a sum of £50 (the minimum amount) had to be raised, and deposited as far back as last January, and in addition to that there are heavy expenses in connection with the match. The only hope the lo*cal body has of recovering these sums is for everyone who can possibly do .so to make a point of_ attending the match. The Australians will bo worth watching, for the names of Trumper, Noble, Armstrong, .and Crawford are household words throughout the cricketing world. No finer batsman has over been seen than Victor Trumper, ;ind Noble, Armstrong, and Crawford are three of. the world's best ail-round men. In addition to these giants ol: the game, Dolling, Cody, Mailey (the "googlie" bowler), Waddy, Collins, Layer, and Mc-Kenz-ie are among the best in Australia, and those who ko to th< i Park can go with the certainty that they will see in action as good a team probably as any that will ever visit Nelson. Several of the local enthusiasts_ are hard at work on the wicket, and it is expected to'be in flue order by Wednesday next. • . The Nelson team is now as folloAvs : Thomas, Mead (Tapriwi-rfT Association), Haycock, T. Knapp (WaiiiK.ii Associa-. t:--,i), Allcott, Smith (Motue'-ia Associa-. < > .), Broad, Saxon (College), Ncale, ■'" limond, .Vereoe (Old Boys), Stratton, ! ■ -i.e. Saunders (Nelson), Bensomann I ■ -..'.inuva).
