STOKE.

The monthly meeting of the Stoke Road Board was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs. J. E. Bartlett (chairman), T.-3. Chisnall, J. Best, A. P. Allport, and A. G. Best. The overseer stated in his report that the hole in Quarantine bridge had "been repaired, and the ruts in the road filled in. The gravelling of Bell's road was being proceeded with. He advised that the members of the district

visit Campbell's road, Hope, re repairs to bridge. The pipe on Malcolm's road put in by Mr. Hart was satisfactory. The report was adopted. Mr. H. Tame, Nelson, wrote asking permission to graze pony on road at Stoke.—^Declined. Mr. T. Englebrecht, secretary of the Stoke Progressive Association, wrote asking that the road to the cemetery be put in order.—The writer to be informed that the Board had made arrangements with the Waimea County Council for the work to be done as soon as the grader is in the district. Mr. Englebrecht wrote on behalf of the residents interested in the opening of road through the Hursthouse estate, and offering £10 towards the cost.— Resolved that the work be done, and that the Board expend £20 on the road in addition to the above contribution. The clerk of the Waimea County •Council wrote stating- that the Council was of opinion that it would be more convenient for the residents of Stoke if the Board controlled the cemetery.— Tt was resolved-that the members of the district interview: the chairman1 of the Cbuntyi^QdMticjl on/this matter at any time that will suit his convenience. •■■■';. Tt was resolved that a ferro-concrete culvert be, put in on Campbell's road, Hope, the details to be left to the -members of the district and the overseer. It was resolved to extend the culvert opposite Langbeih's, at Stoke. It was resolved "^to write to the ranger (Mr. P. Coleman) in regard to cattle straying on th*e road.. The overseer was instructed to attend to repairs to the back road, near Saxon's, at Stoke. Accounts amounting to £19 7s 6d were passed for payment.
