"John Thomas wrote objecting to the gate. It was resolved that the .^matter .be held over, all information to be.obtain
Ed for next' meeting. From D. Oxnam, stating that his road was "blocked through the falling of burning trees. After considerable discussion it was 1-es'olved' that the" overseer have. the. ro.ad_cleared, and repoi;t to the"" next" meeting lis-to from whose property th» trees had fallen. ' At. the clerk's instance it was resolved to ask of property,., to clear off treos which fell from thoir land, and blocked roads,, otherwise the Council may decide to charge thi cost of clearing" against them. ;• W. J. Roberts wrote re Grey street. —No action takeli. . From P. Cummings, stating that he would keep open the road from Lake bridge to.the Roundhill for the sum of £20 per annum. —Offer accepted. From A. Salmond," asking for an extension of the telephone to his residence, and forwarding a petition from some 40 persons interested.—Resolved that the petition be endorsed. From the Reef ton Chamber of Commerce, stating that strong complaints had been made re the insanitary con, dition of affairs at, the Springs, and asking if such were the case, and, if so, what steps were being taken to ■remedy matters. —Resolved . that the letter be left for the chairman to attend to. . . > A telegram was received from the General Manager of the Tourist Department, stating that he was leaving Wellington on February 17th, and would advise later when he expected to reach Reefton, en route to the Springs. —The clerk reported that Mr. Wilson had returned to Wellington in consequence of a fatal accident tosome tourists in the Alps. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote stating that a. report would be obtained on the proposed stock reserve in block viii., Maruia. The Sports'and Pastimes Association wrote concerning the use of the CouncirChamber, and the secretary ■ (Mr. Clayton) waited on the Council re the same matter. - • After some discussion it was resolved that the association be charged ss. an evening, and that the room be cleaned each time to the clerk's satisfaction.
GENERAL. It was resolved that the Council sow grass seed on a few acres recently burnt at the ferry reserve, and that the Department of Lands be asked to sow the Crown reserve near McWha's, which had also been recently burnt. The following resolution of author-, ity to operate on the county fund account was passed: "That the members of the Council and Hugh Fraser, treasurer, be and are hereby appointed to operate on the Murchison County fund account, kept with the Bank of New Zealand at Murchison." It was also resolved that, now there iis a branch of the Bank of New Zealand in Murchison, the words "not negotiable" be deleted from the cheques. It was decided to have some repairs carried out on Oxnam's road. Accounts were passed for payment, and a vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
