AN AMICABLE AGREEMENT
Auckland, Feb. 10. At the Conciliation Commissioner's room this morning half a..dozen assessors satSn friendly council,- and made an amicable aujeoment. for the regulation of the working conditions of slaughtermen. The question of wages was very promptly settled, an increase of 2s 6d per hundred being granted for freezing sheep and lambs, and of 2s per hundred for potters' lambs. The former rate now rules at £1 7s 6d per hundred. There was no dispute as to working hours or overtime (the latter being assessed at time and a quarter), the proposals, and counter-proposals being identical in this respect." The hours of work will be between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.; eight hours a day; with a Saturday half-holiday from mid-day. Other slaughtering than that at' the specified rate per hundred will be paid for per head. A mutually satisfactory preference clause was agreed upon, and it was further agreed that all disputes should be referred to a conference of three' delegates from each side.
