A fire broke out this evening in the old Imperial Hotel, now carried on as a boarding house. It contained twentyeight rooms, and was owned by the trustees of the late T. Whittaker, and occupied by William Smith. The brigade quickly had the flames under control, but the house was gutted. Trie house and furniture were insured for £600 in the Commercial Union, and £250 in each of the New Zealand and Sun offices.
