CHRISTCHURCH CRIMINAL CASES.
Christchurch, F«b. 9. The criminal session of the Supreme Court opened before Mr Justice Deuniston this morning. Mr H. Ostler represented the Crown in the piaco of Mr Stringer, K.C., recently promoted to the Bench. Addressing the grand jury, the Judge said the list was the heaviest in his experience—14 charges against 23' persons; but they were not so serious, on examination. Thirty charges were connected with the Customs fraud caseSy and three were sexual cases. In each instance it was a case for the petty jury. ' The following prisonjfers were sentenced: Charles Larsen, burglary at Greymouth, four months'; Norman Findlay, five charges of forging at Greymouth, 18 months'; Alfred Howard, four charges of theft at Greymouth, probation; Frederick Ryson, theft at Lyttelton, four months'; Matilda Streeter, theft, sent to Salvation Army Home for 12 months • Stephen Golding, series of thefts, declared an habitual offender.
