FREIGHTS

Palmerston North, Feb. 9
The Chamber of Commerce this evening decided to support the visit jof Mr Reide while lecturing on his townplanning scheme. Several matters were also discussed in rogard to railway improvement, which it was decided to bring under the notice of the Minister and the General Manager during their visit here shortly.'
Mr Elliott moved: "That it is highly desirable in the interests of farmers and others dealing with live stock, that a separate district be formed, extending from Foxton to Woodville and Levin to Halcombe, to facilitate and deal with the supply of. wagons for the conveyance of live, stock and produce; that a copy be sent1 to the Feilding Charaijtor for support, and to the General Manager." This was carried. Mr Elliott moved: "That the General Manager of Railways be requested to grant a rebate of freight on all wool railed from seaport towns to inland towns for scouring purposes.'' This was also carried. It was resolved that the attention of the Minister of Railways be drawn to the extra railage demanded on fore^n coal, pointing out that inland towns owning gas works are penalised against those working iii a seaport.
