A LLOYD GEORGE STORY.
The two concluding volumes of the "Life of Lloyd George" have just been published. There is one anecdote- told wM|ch. (says the "Times") pleasantly illustrates the .amenities of public life, if it also gives a glimpse- of its animosities. It will be remembered that Mr Lloyd George's speech explaining the famous Budget of 1900 lasted for four hours and a half. When bo had been speaking for two hours it Avas evident .that his voice was beginning to fail, and by general consent of a .sympathetic House there was an adjournment for half an hour to enable him to recover his strength. One of the, incidents of that half-hour may best be told in the words of his youngest daughter Megan.—"lt was just after the Budget speech, and Megan wat> tho. guest of a- fri^-id of the family at .Hindhead. She Avas taken by her hostess to see the ■wonders or -the Devil's' Leap and the Devil's Punch-boy.l, and was interostod ?.-* children are, .to learn mor^'.oir tho personage who had given hit* porno to these wonders.
