ASSOCIATION

AUSTRALASIAN MEDICAL CONGRESS.

Wellington, Feb. 9. Auckland, Feb. 9. At a meeting of the British Medical Association of New Zealand, Dr. Hatherley, of Wanganui, inductqd Dr. W. H. Parkes as president for the presentyear. Dr. William Irving, of Christchureh, was elected president for next year. The next annual meeting will be held at Christchureh.

The Australasian Medical Congress opened at 10 a.m., three hundred delegates, including eighty from Australia, being present.

The president (Dr. A. C. Purchas) was in the chair. Only formal business was done. A number of reports were received, and referred to the sections of the congress which they affected. The executive's report was received, and adopted. / Dr. Purchas briefly welcomed the delegates to' Auckland. Dr. J. &. Mac Donald, chairman of the British Medical Association,. delivered an,address on the British Insurance Acty and its effect on the medical profession in Great Britain. In the afternoon the majority of the delegates were present at a reception in the Exhibition grounds.

This evening the congress was formally opened by his Excellency the Govern orj the Earl of Liverpool, and addresses of welcome were given by the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. P. Massey), the • Minister for Public Health (Hon. R. H. Rhodes), and the Mayov of Auckland (Mr. G. J. Parr). Dr. Pm*cha« then delivered p, lengthy presidential address.
