London, Dec. 28

The number of poor receiving relief in London totals 102,887—72,894 in workhouses and ,29,993 by outdoor relief.' - ! •

The figures show a reduction of 7405; as compared with 1912, but inviexr of the period of unequalled prosperity the diminution is considered disappointing and disquieting.

The proportion per thousand receiving relief is as follows: —Poplar, .43; Bermondsey,- 38; Saint Giles, 39 ; Stepney, 32; Whitechapel, 24; Islington, 27.
