The new Parliament was opened by commission, and members were sworn
The Governor's Message simply referred to the election of Speaker, and the' passing of supply.
Mr. 11. D. Meagher, the caucus nominee, vrs-s the only candidate, and was elected Speaker.
Before the meeting of the House the caucus discussed the claims of Mr. Morton, the late Speaker, Mr McGowen, irnd Mr Mongber, to the Spenkcrship. The voting gave Mr Meagher a majority over the combined votes of 'the other two candidates.
