London, Dec. 22

The Colonial Institute gave a luncheon to Mr. A. M. Myers, M.P. for. Auckland East, Lieutenant-General Sir James Bevan Edwards presiding.

The chairman recalled the fact that he had inspected the New Zealand forces in 1889, and there was no finer material for soldiers in'"the world.

Mr. Myers, in the course of his speech, dealt with finance and defence. He justified the New Zealand loans on the ground that they were devoted to reproductive Avorks. He declared that Australia, Canada, and New Zealand should unite to relieve Britain of tbe defence of the Pacific.
