London, Oct. 13. The Right Hon. James Stuart died at Norwich.

The Right Hon James Setwart, P. 0., M.A., LL.D., was 'born in 1843, and was educated at St Andrew's and Cambridge Universities. He was a member of the House of Commons for many years, sitting as a Liberal. He represented at different periods Hackney, Boston (Shoreditch), and Sunderland. Ho was Professor of Mechanism at Cambridge from 1875 to 1579 Since 1893 he had been a director of J. and J. Colman, Ltd. Mr Stuart was Lord Rec-tor-of St Andrew's University irom 1898 to 1901. He was the founder ot the system of university extension and the 'mechanical workshops at Cambridge. ■■■;■;.. ■■■••■'.■ •
