DEATH ROLL PROBABLY 170,
PASSENGERS' LEAP TO DEATH
PITIFUL WIRELESS APPEALS.

The Carmania has arrived at Fishguard. A passenger states that if the two of the Volturno's 'boats which were safely launched are lost, as is feared, the death roll will be 170.
The La Touraine's officers report that many of the Volturno's passengers, becoming terrorised by the onrushing flames, jumped into the sea and perished. .■ ' ..'.'■'■ '' . ■:■■■■ •■•
Captain Barr, of the Carmania, states that at the third effort he sent rafts with lines attached,, hoping the Volturno's .seamen would swim with the other lines, and thus establish communication; but.the effort was fruitless.
The warship Donegal has been despatched to destroy the hull of the Volturno.
Captain Inch sent continuous pitiful messages: "Can't something be done to help us; must abandon ship; plates buckling; stand close m as we may have to jump for it."
Captain Inch, with the wireless oper a'tors, left in the last boat.
The Grosser Kurfust reports that forty were killed by the explosion, and the captain was injured.
