Sergeant Barrett, of the local police force, who passed his examination foe senior sergeant at the recent polka* examinations, has been informed thathe headed the list of candidates in hisdivision. Sergeant Barrett is to be heartily congratulated upon his success.
Tlie Rev. VsiJlance Cook and Mrs Cook, of London, are closing their evangelistic mission in New Zealand, at Auckland. They will bo in thatcity for a fortnight.
Mr and Mrs L. J. Bagnall celebrated their golden wedding last Friday, report the Auckland papers. They werti married in Canada in 1863, and in the following year came to Auckland, together with Mr Bagnall's father anal brothers. In 1868 Mr Bagnall went to the Thames and started in the timber business. He and his father bought the Turua sawmills on th& Waihou River.
