MURDER OF A BOY.
THE VICTORIAN CASE.
■EVIDENCE AGAINST FREEMAN
Melbourne, Oct 10. •T.he inquiry into the/ murder of the boy Anderson has been resumed.
A girl of 11, a cousin of the victim, stated that sometimes Freeman had disputes with Anderson, and had pointed a pea rifle at-Anderson.
A sister of accused, aged 12, said that her brother had blood on . his stockings and trousers when returning home on the day of the murder.
A schoolboy, in evidence, stated that Freeman and* Anderson had- a fight ftt -school a. year ago. Freeman made signs indicating that he would shoot Anderson and cut his throat.
Freeman was committed for trial on a charge of murder.
A youth named'GlaTence. Freeman, aged 14 years,, who is almost deaf and dumb, and is. mentally, deficient, was arrested on a, charge of wilfully murdering the boy John Anderson, aged •15, years, whose mutilated' body was found in the Warparilla district, near ■Echuca. The police^ accompanied by the arr'estee, went to the scene of the tragedy*, where, by the medium of signs interpreted by a step-brother, Freeman indicated that he, Anderson,, and a third' boy had been bird : nesting, and that the last^ named - deliberately shot Anderson- wKil?Khe was v up a tree, and then severed ihe.'head from, t^e body. Tlie police^scredit tHei-stoty that there wan a third*!boy. They had ascertained that Freeman had a jrrudaj& agairtH Anderson for rabbiting on his (Fv-eman's) father's- land, i and twico threatened to shoot him.
