TYPISTS IN PARLIAMENT.
One of the latest innovations in tho parliamentary life of New South Wales is the. employment of a number, of typists for the purpose of j assisting members with regard' to thoir I correspondence; but a few days ago Mr Cohen- suggested that his arrangement was being carried rather further than was over intended. "Is it a fact," ho asked tho Speaker, "that members are employing these typists at their private offices? If it is so, will the Speaker see that the practice is stopped so that other members may avail themselves of their services .at Parliament House? Tho Speaker replied* that ho was not aware that this practice was being indulged in, but ho would have inquiries made. Mr Wood asked that the Speaker would abolish altogether the practice, cf providing typistes for private members, suggesting that "the whole thing constitutes a reflection and a scandal on Parliament" ; but he received no encouragement, the Speaker replying that he was already engaged in considering the desirability of extending the system.
