APPLEBY.
The recent rains have made a marked improvement iii.the growth of crops and- grass in these phits but have been very much against tho lambing, several iambs having been1 lost just lately. We have now got the County Council's traction engine .and trucks cart-' ing metal from tho river up to tho Moutcre .Hills, but if it is. making that road it is brealdng.it nearer the river, in lots of 'places, the. crown or' the road being broken right through. It is about time tho Co'imcil and road boards did eomcthing in'connection with the stray stock on tharouds, and if a more severe penalty was imposed stock would be kept in more by the owners.
