Mr Smillio, president of the Scottish Miners' Conference, rebuked the Derbyshire miners for disloyalty to the Labour Party over ,tho Chesterfield byes-election. He said that if the party was not strong and active- in the House of Commons, the miners were to blame. "The Liberal Party was not in earnest in tno proposed reforms which it was Wangling before the people.
