LOANS TO LOCAL BODIES

An important new provision dealt with in the Government's new Bill dealing with local bodies loans will enable large local bodies to raise loans direct from London with a Government ouarantee the total loans in this way to b e limited to £500,000 per annum. The Hon. J. Allen mentioned that he made inquiries in London as to what would bo the effect of tho system, ■ finding that largo local bodies might benefit" by the guarantee to tho extent oi a quarter to half per cent reduction.
