HANDCUFFS STOP BULLET.
A polico officer at Marquette, -Vlichip,.i'i, had his. life saved recently by a ' pan of handcuffs fa-stoned to. his belt. Ho aa as picking up kindling wood \.hon his pistol slipped from its holster, fell to the floor, and was discharged. Th' bullet passed through his vest-, 'ijolfc cid trousers, and struck the lianclcuffj with such- force--.as t-o drive a ni xlt into his abdomen, causing a [ slight wound. Had tho bullet not en- [ countered tho steal cuffs it would tinf doubtcdly have- passf-d through tho body in an upward course. Tho steel jacket of the bullet was flattened, and when t-bo officer reached homo he found portion of the load hi his stock'in.qs. The- -ha-ndcuifs were put out of commission.
