FARRWEIJ, PRESENTATIONS
! On Tuesday evening a social gatjieriing arranged by the St. Barnabas' 'Church members was held at the btoko Public Hall, to bid farewell to. Miss Allport and'-Miss Lydia Deo, both oi whurn arc very Shortly to be married. A musical programme- was rendered and was much appreciated. During the evening, the Rev. A. J. Oarr, vicar of the parish, presented Miss Ellen Allport with a double,, sot oi carvers, silver carver rests, entre dish, and a pair of silver candle sticks us a wedding gift from the church members. He referred to Miss Allport's work in the parish; sho had ever been ready to assist in any woric connected with the church and Sunday school, and had been for a number of years a prominent member of the choir. The members of the church felt that they could not allow her to depart without showing how much they appreciated her good work, and in asking her to accept the presents ho wished her every happiness and prosperity in her wedded life.
Mr. A. P. Allport, on behalf of his sister, suitably responded. Mr. Scott, on behalf of the choir members, presented Miss Dee with two very handsome silver candle sticks. For some years Miss Deo acted as organist of the church, and by her ability and patience greatly improved the quality of the singing. The choir therefor© wished to show their appreciation of her efforts, and they hoped that'every happiness would follow Miss Dee ■wherever sho went*
Mr. Racy, for Miss Dee, thanked the membei's Very sincerely for their pre-
sentation and expressions of goodwill. Both the guests of tho evening hav«been active members of the Stoke Musical Society since its formation, and Mr. D. 11. Wilmot, as president, on behalf of tho members, in a few well chosen words, wished the ladios goodbye.
Last evening a number of "the person aJ^ friends of Sergoant-Major Coldough, who is under orders for trans- - for on promotion, met at tho Commercial Hotel for the purpose of making a. presentation to the genial sergeantmajor, and expressing their goodwilltowards him. Mr George Hogg, president of tiio Nelson Bowling Club was in the chair, and made- tho presentation on behalf of the company. By those who supplemented the remark's., of tho chairman, not only wero the social good qualities of tho guest of the evening recognised, but reference wasr mado to the uot inconsiderable public services rendered by the ser-geant-major, notably ■in connection with the Nelson Museum, where he had as a labour of love dono work that was invaluable. The proceedings were marked by the utmost goodwill and cordiality Sergeant-Major Colclough, alter suitably expressing his thanks stated that departmental requirements would entail his remaining in Nelson till towards the end of tho present month in the course «f his remarks no paid a tribute to the attractions of Nelson, and acknowledged tho kindnesses of tho good friends whom he Had made during his sojourn here. It was a source of pleasure to him that his new office would permit his visiting iN olson occasionally, and if ho should rehire it was m Nelson that ho hoped to mako his home.
