LAND RE-AGGREGATION.
CONSIDERED BY FARMERS' UNION CONFERENCE.
[United Press Association.]
Wellington, July* 15.
The quostion of re-aggregation was discussed at the Farmers' Union conference to-day. Tho president, x\lr. J. G. Wileou, said that there had -been a <rreat deal of foolish talk about re-ag-gregation. Personally he regarded if as political talk. "I may say," he added, "that on this coast this sort of tiling has not taken place. The land was originally bush which was cleared by th-et original ovyners in some cases hi large areas. It is now being disposed of in very small areas right along the coast, aud tho land is being cut up. No Jess than 200,000 or 300,000 acres had been cut up along the West Coast during a very few years, but there has facilities be granted for the conveyance few instances." The. Union desired to re-afErm its views against re-aggrega-tion as being injurious to the country. At the same time it was considered that there were areas which, had beou cub up into too small sections in the first placa, and it was only reasonable that men should have enough land to make a living out "of. It was finally decided: That tho conference is against re-aggregation or land. It considers that all land should bo disposed of in such areas as will permit a reasonable living to be made by any person taking it up, and that some provision should bo mr.de. so that all tho conditions imposed by the Land Act can be carried out. the Land Act should be so altered as to enable the holders of such land to borrow money on equal terms to ordinary freeholders.
