EUGENICS.
Words of vv-arning with regard to tho science cf eugenics wore tittered by Professor Darnloy Naylor in Adelaide last week: Tho professor addressed liis remarks to the theme of eugenics, he observed, "but there is a ecbool which maintains that it in going to bo the panacea of iiil evils in existence. Heredity in mankind is very complex, however, p.nd you cannot treat men ?,s you do cattle-, horses, cv sheep. Tiiero is a ■story of a vovy ugly professor who deliberately married a brainless but beautiful woman. To hie horror later their children had very ugly faces and bin wife's brain as well. (Laughter.) In ancient Sparta eugenics wore, ca-rriftd on to the limit. It is perfectly true that' Sparta produced many of the finest soldiers—strango to say} most of these were 'half-caster—but not a single thing to art, literature, or philosophy did that nation contribute."
