The steamer Uskmoor sighted the whaler Sound of Jura, while on the voyage- from the Southern Pacific, in a helpless condition.

Four of the crew had died of 'beriberi, and the rest were sick. The topmast was broken. The Uskmoor towed the Sound of Jura 700 miles to St Vincent.
