Sydney, June 20.

To-day's count placed the result of the Hume contest Deyond doubt. Tho latest figures give Mr Patton (Liberal) a, lead of 381 over Sir William Lyno (Independent) with only 350 votes uncounted.

When the Liberal victory was assured, Mr Fisher accepted the inevitable and handed in his resignation.

Mr Cook, leader of tho Opposition, left for Melbourne to-night.
