The Imporator has arrived with many notable people on-board. She was given a great reception. The average speed throughout the voyage was 22 knots.
Tho Iraperator is owned.by the Ham-burg-Amerika. line, and is the first of three 60,000 tonnors. Sho was constructed at tho Vulcan Yard at Hamburg, and is tho first passenger vessel built in tho new Hamburg yard. Her two sister ships, laid down last year, arc boing constructed by tho well known firm of IJlohm and Vos«, also of Hamburg. It was on Juno 18th, 1910, that tho keel of tho Imperator was laid, and when sli>e> took the water on tho morning of i?ay 23rd her weight was 27,000 tons. Sho has been constructed under the direct supervision of the Gcrrnanischer Lloyd and allied societies, and her hull is fitted with tho largest number of watertight compartments over provided in a single vessel. Tho Imperator has quadruple screws, and by' reversing one or two of her propellers it will bo possible for her to turn sixteen points on. her own axis. Tho vessol is divided " into thirty-six watertight compartments, of which an important featuro is tho.height. They i extend from tho second deck, far above tho water-line, right down to tho double I bottom. Twenty-three of these ".have j been fitted with Dorrscher's patent ' watertight door apparatus, and are closed from tho bridge by .-electrical and pneumatic power. The enormous eizo !of tho Imperator renders it possible for | her,, as was originally-designed, -fo carry 'lifeboats'for every passenger and member of ■ the crew. Sho will number. am,ong her crew sufficient able seamen 'and other men thoroughly proficient in, the handling of boats. Tho vessel will' carry 5,100 souls. Tho passenger accommodation, fittings, and decorations are even more luxurious than those of tho Kaiserin Auguste- Victoria or tho Amcrika. Saloons, «tato rooms, and decks are larger, as well as increased'in number, there are a double dining-salobn, and a Rita Carlton restaurant, a. ballroom, winter garden, smoking room, ladies' saloon, music saloon, gymnasium, .and a largo swimming bath in" Pompeian stylo. The state rooms are largo and roomy, and there are a great number for the solo use of ono passenger, a feature greatly appreciated by the travelling public. At her bow the Imperil tor is decorated with a gigantic brbnzo eaglo, its head and neck outstretched, its vvmgs lying back and touching the side of the vessel. Tho steamer is 881 feet in length, with a beam of 96 feet, and will carry, when full, 800 first class, 600 second class, 975 third class, and 1800 steerage passengers*, and a crew of 1100. .
