ROBBERY UNDER ARMS.

SISTERS ATTACKED AND ROBBED

A BROTHER'S CONFESSION.

(Received June 20, 10.15 p.m.)

Sydney, Juno 20

On April 24th the residence of Captain Cox, at Woollahra, was entered by burglars and jewellery valued at £80 was stolen. Last night the two Misses Cox were alone in the house, their brother Roy, aged sixteen, having just previously left.

There was a knock at tho door, which was opened, when a masked man presented a revolver at Miss Cox and demanded a ring she was wearing, which was valued at £150. She refused, and struck the intruder, who knocked her down.

Her.sister came to her assistance, and a lengthy struggle ensued, m which the sisters received several wounds on their heads and bodies. They managed to belabour tho burglar, but eventually tne intruder overcame the sisters, who each handed over a ring. Th© man then decamped. Earlier in the night a man named Leggatt was driving on the Belmore road, when two masked men jumped out from tho roadside. One seized the bridlo, and the other, presenting a revolver, demanded money. Leggatt handed over £30, and jumping out of the buggy, started to run. Ono of the highwaymen fired, wounding him on the arm, and both decamped. There was a sensational development to-day, when a man named Laurence and Roy Cox- were arrested arid remanded on a charge of committing the robbery on April 24th.

The arrests were the result of a confession by Roy Cox that he ar-

ranged with Laurence to rob his sisters last night. He also confessed that he and Laurence .stuck up Leggatt, by whom young Cox was employed until a few days ago.

Cox said he held the horse while Laurence robbed and shot Leggatt.

The police found the missing rings and a revolver with one chamber discharged, in Laurence's room.
