EPSOM INCIDENT REPEATED AT ASCOT.
HORSE SEIZED BY A YOUTH.
NARROW ESCAPE OF THE JOCKEY
SUFFRAGIST TERRIBLY INJURED

During the raco for tho Ascot Gold Cup, Tracery, the second favourite, was loading six furlongs from home, when a youth named Hewitt, of Trinity College, Cambridge, jumped out, waving a suffragist flag, brandishing a revolver, and crying, "Pull up, or I'll shoot
you." The jockey, Whallcy, was unable to avoid tho suffragist, who attempted to grab Tracery's neck. Tho horao-caught him and sent him flyiHg. Tracery fell heavily, Whalloy bemg thrown. He just had time to crawl into safety under the railings before the rest of tho field raced by. Princo Palantine jumped over Tracery, which struggled up and finished the raco without its ridor. Howitt, when he was picked up, had a fractured skull, due to a kick from tho horse Fitz Richard inflicting a terriblo wound. He was taken to a hospital, whore an operation was immediately performed, but it is believed this c-aso is hopeless. Tho King anxiously inquired for and sent for Whalley, who went to the Royal box. I*3 was not hurt. Their Majesties were enthusiastically cheered on returning to Windsor. Whalley states that Tracery would havo won had tho incident not occurred.
