SMARING-A BIG FORTUNE.
. It now transpires that a Hamilton resident, Mrs. 'A. Parkor, participates in-the Hartley millions to tho extent of an eighth share of £4,500,000. The correct version of the facts is as fol-lows:-—Some time, ago a gentleman came to the Dominion from the Old Country to prosecute inquiries as to the whereabouts of IV] r. Stephen Charles.Hartley, who arrived in New Zoland in the year 1810. Ho was not altogether disinterested in. his inquirisfi, as he know that if he could prove the, demise of Hartley without issue, he would-himself be the heir at law to an estate valued in round figures at £4,500,000, He ascertained, however, that Mr Hartley, who for years resided in the , Manawntu district, and who was well known throughout the North Island, died in Palmerston. North where he practised as a Native interpreter; but .had left eight children— four sons and four daughters—who are the rightful heirs to the estate, which comes to the family through their father's ancestry. The directly' interested persons are John Charles', and George Hartley, of Rangitikoi ; H. Hartley, of Hiinata'ngi; Mrs. J." Curta, of Orari • Mrs. H. Kibblewhite, of Rotorua;'Mrs. A. P:irkd\ of Hamilton, and the children qf tho late Mrs. H. West (nee Hartley), .of Otakeko, who will' receive their mother's share.
