PICTURES,

Tho bi-weekly change of, programme screened at tho Theatre Royal last evening, attracted a large and highly appreciative ' audience. Tho .star drama, "Father," by the Italia Company, is a story; of profound human interest, developing in an absorbingly interesting manner. Eueriste Marny, who is on the verge of ruin through the success of a rival factory owiior, plots with - Tonic to sot fire to'his'' rival's premises. This Tonic does, and one Vivante is arrested as an incendiary and imprisoned. Marny, however, made a mistake in conveying his ■ instructions to Tonic on the back of his business card. 'Fifteen years elapse, and Vivante is still imprisoned, but ;he contrives to escape, and ""returns- to his native city to look for his daughter, who was adopted by JVfarney. Disguised as a rag-picker, Vivante goes to an old tavarn, and meets Tonic, who is intoxicated. The latter drops the card, which Vivante picks upland from it learns that Marny was his oppressor. Tonic on finding his card gone, and realising 'hat ho has no further hold on Marny, goes to the hitter's factory, and sets fire to it; Marny perishes, but not before he exonerates Vivante. Same of tho scenes were intensely dramatic and exciting; and the acting was splendid. Tho leading role was■ taken by Ermite Tacconi, a well-known Italian actor.
