CANTERBURY SLAUGHTERMEN'S
DISPUTE
Christahursh, June 18. The-Conciliation Council met to-day to deal with the dispute between tho Canterbury Slaughtermen's Union and. tlie Christchureh Moat Company, and the Canterbury Frozen Meat and Dairy, Produce Company. The Commissioner read a letter from tho companies stating thatthey oouM not discuss the terms or objects of any agreement with the Canterbury Slaughtermen'© Industrial Union of Workers for tho reason that tho present, state of the industry did not _ warrant an agreement beir).g made with ttiat. union, as the majority of slaughtermen, employed,in Canterbury district are not members of tho union. The Commissioner said that the employers' letter was practically an expression of a wish on their part to r&fer the matter to the Court- of Arbitrn--tion, so tho dispute would be-referred to'tho Court. ~.,-, , A i It is not considered hkeiy that tho slaughtermen's disputo will como bofore'the.
