AN AMATEUR DETECTIVE.
Charles Gys, a jeweller's commission agent, of Paris, lias proved * successful pupil ol' Shorlock Holmes. In March he was swindled out of three pearl necklaces, valued at £2120, by a man named Urnun, who. protended ho had a customer for the necklace, but who decamped when they wore entrusted to him, ostensibly 'abandoning his wife and children.
Mme. Braun exhibit**! great'grief at being deserted, but M. Gys had a strtpicioti that she was aware of, her husband's whereabouts, so he had his hair dyed, donned a false board and ragged garments and, completely disguised as a. typical; Parisian mendicant;.- posted himself put&d'e, lior. rosidoucev .and shadowed her when she went out.
Three days, passed, and then, with her children and very little luggage, she went to the railway station and took tho express for Vienna. M. G-ys was in the. same train, and on reaching the Austrian capital he saw Hraun and his parents awaiting >lm<>. Hraun on the platform." He followed the party, and learning that, besides being a swindler, Braiui was a- de-sorter from tho Austrian Army, easily induced the authorities,to issue a warrant for his

Gys\ found the.bank in. which Bnuni hud deposited this money, secured evidence to show that the throe money, lenders were Braun's accomplices, and had thorn arrectcd; -and mrntually traced tho pearls.
