FOOTBALL AND HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.

The football and hockey tournament organised by tlhe combined amateur qlubs in both those branches of sport took place at the Botanical Reserve yesterday., the games commencing at ten o'clock in the mOruing and continuing with an intermission of an hour for lunch, until 5 p.m. There was a large attendance of spectators especially in the afternoon, and some interestma games we're witnessed, especially in the football, tho play of the College team in the semi-final and final arousing great enthusiasm. In the forenoon the senior ladies' hockey competition and I the third class seven-a-sido football for the Harpor shied took place, the Wakatu s winning the former and tho Waimea the > latter. Tn the afternoon the men's senior football and hockey competitions eventuated. The College won the Little John shield, but the •'hockey final between Nelson A and Wai-Mai A was not concluded owing to darkness. The regulation time was played, but as neither side bnd scored, it was decided to continue tlie match next Saturday. Tho day was beautifully fine overhead, and the ground, considering the heavy rain of the nreviou.s day -was in splendid order. The Stoke Orphanage Band p'aveVl selections throughout the day. Altogether the combined tournament proved d (rvent success. Appended are the results:—
