CONFESSION OF A PRESIDENT.
President Poincare's well-known indifference to strict etiquette was shown when a barrister called at the Elysee Palace- to plead for tho life, of Dieudonne, the motor bandit, who was reprieved at the olovonth hour. When he had tho promise that his client would benefit by the Presidential clemency, tho barrister said: "In my youth I used to call on Prince Victor Napoleon, and etiquette decreed that I should not rise until I was told to do so —what must Ido now?" M. Poincaro replied, "Between you and me I really do not know."
