DESCRIPTION OF THE VESSEL.

The Toanui referred to in to-day's cables is probably tho Gisborrie Sheepfarmers' Company's new tug which waa reported a few day© ago to have left the Clyde for Gisbonio. She wae in tho command of Captain Sewell, of Gisborne, and carried a crew" of a dozen men. The Toanui is a well equipped ocean tug, built by Messrs.; Wm/Chambers and- Co. (Riitherglen), a well known Clyde firm. The vessel is of. light draught, 'and the shipbuilders constructed her under the personal supervision of Capta.in W. B. Sewell, the company's marine superintendent , t who went Home especially for the purpose. She was reported" to be a. first class. Clyde job, and perfectly well equipped for.the long voyage to New Zealand. The Toanui is a single screw steel tug, about 90 tons, with powerful engines, and equipped with & modern salvage plant. - • ■ Mr. Delatour, chairman of directors of the Sheep-farmers' _ Company, when approached this evening, stated that whilst the news was .disquieting, th© company was hopeful that it would got more favourable information in a few hours.- Advice had been'received that there had been heavy weather on 'the British coast, and that were sheltering. The company would be fully advised as to tho situation by its -Homo correspondents.
