Mr; William Moyes, senior, a very old identify of Nelson, and in. years past a prominent citizen, passed away peacefully yesterday at tho residence of his son Air. Charles Moyes, Halifax street. The deceased was a man of great energy, and even till the last, at the great ago of 84 years, ho worked at his trade as a tailor. Mr. Moyes was horti in Glasgow in 1829, and arrived in Nelson by the ship Golconda in 1862, setting up in business in Bridge street in premises which he occupied till the time of his death. Efo was held in high esteem by all who knew him, and had many friends, especially amongst the older inhabitants of the city. He leaves three sons and' a daughter; Mrs. A. A. Troup, and Mr. James Moyes, residing in Auckland ; Mr. Charles Moyes, on the staff of this paper; aud Mr. Wi.lnun Moyes. jeweller, of Trafalgar street. Ainongsi a large number of_ grand-children is sumbered Mr. William Moyes, houdi master of tlxe New Plymouth Boys' i High School. Mrs. Moyes predeceased her husband •by four years. * Mr. 'Moyes.was a life member of the board of management of the local Presbyterian Church. The relatives of Mr. Moves will have widespread sympathy, in their bereavement.
