A FALLEN HERO.

A Victoria Cross Hero was sentenced at tho Birmingham quarter sessions to twelve months hard labour for neglecting his wife, and children. The man, who is named Georgo Ravenhill, was awarded tho coveted decoration at the battle of Colenso, but he lost it in a Birmingham pawn shop. Tho military authorities had become aware of this, and obtained possession of it. Mr Norris Foster, who prosecuted, said the Victoria Cross seemed to have turned the man's brain, and, in fact, appeared to have been his ruin. Some portion of his family had been chargeable to the union twenty-four times, representing 800 weeks, and an expense to the ratepayers of £280. Through convictions he had lost tho pension ■which the Victoria Cross carried.
