BURGLARY EPIDEMIC.

Christchurch, June 16. Another of the mysterious burglaries which have been occurring in Christchurch of late was committed last night, when ~'^VVoodford," the residence of Mr. George Palmer (Papanui road) was broken into, and jewellery to tho extent of £150 stolen. The affair happened between 7 and 8 p.m., when the family were having supper, and it was not discovered till about 10.30 p.m. Tho thief, or thieves, entered by a bock window, and rifled livo : bedrooms. Strange to ©ay, they took -only gold jewellery, leaving ail silver ware untouched. They also took a purse, but; it contained no money. It is stated! that the thief, or thieves, have only been breaking into two-storied houses between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. when families aro at dinner- So far they have made a haul in Christchure?,* of £750 worth of jewellery.
