ESTIMATES OF THE POSITION.

PROBABLE LIBERAL GAINS.

SEVERAL PLACES DOUBTFUL,

REFERENDA RETURNS,

Sydney, Jxme 2

On the existing figures tho "Sydney Moring Herald" makes tho approximate position, Labour and Liberal each 34, with 7 doubtful seats. It calculates tho Liberal gains at three each in Now South Wales and Victoria, and one each in Queensland and Westralia; while Labour gains one each in New South Wales, Queensland, and Westralia, and two each in Victoria and South Australia; with nine more possible Liberal and one Labour gains in various States.

The "Sydney Daily Telegraph," with the reservation that anything may happen in a dozen electorates, estimates the net gains as Liberals seven and Labour two.

The few referenda returns received from Now South Wales, Wesfrralia and Queensland slightly favour "Yes" and those from Tasmania "No."

Many complaints are made of disfranuhisement through incomplete rolls.

In Brisbane tho supply of voting papers was short, and numbers were unable to poll.
