FOOTBALL AND HOCKEY.
AMATEUR CARNIVAL AT THE
RESERVE
The 'keenest interest is being displayed in tho carnival to bo held to-day in tho Botanical Reserve under the auspices of tho Nelson Rligby Union and the Nelson Hockey Association. Play will commence at 9.45 in the morning, and contiuuo until 12 o'clock, the competitions set down being tho ladies' six-a-sidb tournament, and the third class seven-a-sid-e- tournament for tho Harper shield. Tho matches will bo resumed at 1.45 in tho afternoon, when those increasingly popular forms of both football and hockey, the seven-a--side' and six-a-side games, will eventuate. Splendid entries have been received for all tho competitions., In the ladies' tournament seven teams have entered, in the senior men's hcokey six-a-side 8, and in the senior Rugby soven-a-side, teams from College, Old Boys, Waimca, and Rival will participate.
Tho attention of tha public is particularly drawn to the fact that matches, both morning and afternoon, will bo played at the Botanical Reserve.
Arrangements have been nirxlo to provide seating accommodation for ladies, and tho Stoke Industrial School Bra«s Band will render selections throughout tho day. Tho band will play from town to the Reserve in the morning and also in the afternora.
