There is keen disappointment, especially on the part of a largo number of young people- who wero nob permitted to see the vessel at Lyttelton.
It was the intention of the Mayor and Councillors to ' entertain Captain Halsey at luncheon, and during the afternoon tho captain wa.g to unveil a memorial tablet to tho Antarctic heroes at tbe Waitaki High School. .
Mr. Wilson, the Government representative, received a message from Captain .Halsey to the effect that the sea was too rough for the Tutanekai and Hinemoa to take- tho children round tho warship.
In order to lessen the disappointment Mr Wilson offered, on behalf of the Government, to contribute towards the cost of entertaining the children at a picnic in the city gardens. The New Zealand has proceeded south.
