THE TAILOR'S BLIND EYE.

Tho somewhat drab proceedings of tho Auckland Magistrates' Court were enlivened tho other afternoon, says the "Herald," when a witness in a tailoring dispute- was being examined. A notice had been posted on the wall of a tailoring workshop prohibiting employees from doing tlieir own private work in the firm's time, and the witness was asked by Mr Mulgan if lie had read it. "I saw it," he replied; "I know it was there, but I didn't read ifl." ''You didn't read Hi—why?" asked tho counsel. "Well, it was this way—l. had como private work on hand myself at the time, and I didn't want to read tho notice." "You deliberately refused to read tho notice so that you might do your owm work in your employers' time?" Well—yes," ■'igreecl tho witness, visibly embarrassed. "After all, thero is no harm in that—it's only what Lord Nelson did," interposed Mr Mays, amidst laughter.
