WANGANUI RIVER SERVICE.

CHANGE IN CONTROL PROPOSED.

Wanganui, May 27. A special meeting of the Wanganui Chamber of Comruorco was held tonight to discuss the Wanganui river service. The attendbnea was not large. The chairman ruled that no personal grievances should be ventilated. The chairman movod, and it was carried: "That in order to facilitate the working of the river steamer service without undue friction, a complete schedule of charges for both passengers and cargo to various pointß of the river between Wanganui and Taumarunui be published, and made available to all requiring to use the river service. ■» It was complained that there were only two charges between Wanganm and Taumarunui. Mr W. J. Poison moved, "That the Chamber is of opinion that the time has arrived for the Government to inaugurate an up-river service for the Wanganui river, and that an expert be sent Home to arrange for the purchase of a fleet of steamers.'*'. Mr A. Hatrick stated that for years past ho wanted the Government to take over the control.
