ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY.

Auckland, May 27. A man named Daniel South escaped from custody at the Auckland police station cells'this morning. South is a single man, aged 33 years, who was arrested in Wellesley street last night, at. about 9 o'clock on a charge of being disorderly while drunk. . He gavo a good deal of trouble when being arrested, and further charges of assaulting Constables Millar and Hill, and of resisting a constable in the execution of his duty, were preferred against him. This morning, about 7 oclock, when the prisoners wer© receiving eomo attention, South appears to have taken advantage of a- momentary opportunity, when the door of the- cell yard was unguarded, to slip away I quietly, and escape.
