THE PACIFIC CABLE.

REDUCTION OF RATES FORE SHADOWED.

CANADIAN WIRELESS AGREE-

MENT,

Sydney, May 14

Mr Milward, manager of the Paci'io Cable Board, commonting on Canada's recently announced contract with the Poulsen Wireless Company, foreshadowed a reduction of the cost of coded cables to London from 3s to 2s Bd, a saving of 4d a word. Though ho had no information from the London office on the matter, if the wireless system proved efficient and of benefit to the public, the Pacific Cable Board would certainly make arrangements with the Poulson Company to carry, their messages to Australia. Whatever reduction in rates could be obtained would be passed on to the public. At the same time he looked upoa wireless communication across the Atlantic as in a somewhat nebulous state. Something would have to be done to make the systom more toliable than at prosout, boforo it cue be generally used for commercial and press purposes.
